Sakari can text-enable your existing landline or Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone number in the United States and Canada through a process called Hosted Messaging.
Your team can continue to use your existing company landline or VoIP phone number to send and receive voice calls. All text messages will automatically be routed through Sakari and sent from your existing landline or VoIP phone number.
Notes:
When setting up your existing VoIP or landline number for text messaging with Sakari, ensure you have access to the phone number to receive a verification call. We will send a one-time verification code to the phone number during the setup process.
Numbers added to Sakari via Hosted Messaging do not support Call Forwarding.
Add your number
- Navigate to your Senders page
- Click Add Sender in the top right corner of your screen
- Select Bring Your Own
Hosted messaging is only supported for numbers from the United States and Canada.
Enter your number and choose your provider.
If your provider is not shown, or a selected provider does not allow you to verify, select other.
Verify Number
When you click Verify, you will receive a phone call with a six-digit code
Enter this code in the prompt:
This step verifies your ownership of the number.
You can skip the verification if you cannot receive automated calls or want to verify later. Before the number can be hosted, you must verify your ownership by providing additional documentation by email.
The number status will show as Verified in the Senders section in Sakari:
Sign LOA
Complete the form shown. Using the same details for multiple numbers will expedite the overall process.
Who needs to sign the LOA?
The signee grants permission to route SMS on the number through Sakari and should have authority over the use of the specific telephone number(s) in the business.
The LOA does not need to be signed by the end user of the number.
Notes:
- An address in the United States or Canada is required
- The inbox of the email address provided must be monitored
After the signed LOA is received by Sakari, the number status will change to Pending in Sakari:
Wait for SMS enablement in Sakari
Once the LOA has been signed, allow 5-7 business days for the message routing configuration to be updated in the industry.
Once enabled for SMS via Sakari, the number status will change to Active:
Confirmation SMS
Depending on the provider, you may receive a text message confirming that "[number] is enabled for SMS". Sakari does not send this message.
Note: After SMS enablement, US local area code numbers must be aligned ('provisioned') with an approved 10DLC campaign. This external process is usually completed within hours.
Lead times can vary, and the confirmation message is occasionally sent before the number status changes to Active. Sakari will only mark the number as Active once we confirm it has been successfully aligned.
Pricing
Standard Sakari text messaging rates will apply. The additional phone number is treated as a standard United States or Canada phone number, and standard phone billing rates apply.
