Alphanumeric Sender ID FAQ

Use an Alphanumeric Sender ID to send text messages from your branded company name.

Requirements

Alphanumeric Sender IDs can be between 4 to 11 characters in length (most countries have a 6 character minimum) and support the following categories:

  • Upper-case letters A-Z
  • Lower-case letters a-z
  • Numbers 0-9

Your ID must include at least one letter and cannot be composed only of numbers. Non-ASCII special characters and punctuation, including spaces, are not allowed.

Restrictions

One way messaging

Alphanumeric Sender IDs only support one-way messaging.  Customers receiving messages from an Alphanumeric Sender ID cannot reply by SMS.

Sakari offers a feature called Universal Reply, which allows responses via a chat interface.

Support for opt-out keywords

Automatic carrier-level opt-out by keyword (e.g. STOP, CANCEL) is not supported by default, as SMS replies are not supported.

The contact will be blocked in Sakari if:

  • they send an opt-out keyword via Universal Reply
  • they send an opt-out keyword to a dedicated long-code number on your Sakari account

Countries supported

Although Sakari requires you to choose a country to configure the Alphanumeric Sender ID, you can use a single Alphanumeric Sender ID to message any enabled destination

  • Alphanumeric Sender ID is not supported in the United States or Canada
