Overview
Unwanted messaging is a problem in the messaging industry, leading to complaints, fines, or complete carrier disconnection of service.
Depending on the country, laws or regulations may restrict certain types of messaging or even forbid certain things altogether. Messages which violate these rules may be subject to filtering.
Filtering criteria
Several criteria will contribute towards a message being filtered, of which the message content is only one. They also use machine learning to identify patterns (in content, frequency and responses) in messaging from and/or between the same numbers.
How do I know if my messages are being filtered?
Filtered messages will display as an errored message in your Inbox. Hovering over the error icon will display the description of the error.
Who is filtering my messages?
Filtering of your outgoing messages can occur by Sakari as well as a downstream partner.
In the example above, the message was filtered in Sakari as the user was attempting to send a message from an unverified toll-free number.
Am I charged for filtered messages?
Messages filtered by Sakari are not chargeable; messages filtered by downstream partners are billed. Downstream carriers charge for all filtered messages to discourage abuse of the carrier's network and pay for the monitoring oversight.
Why are my messages being filtered?
Every error has a description and a code.
You can find a table of codes and associated descriptions in Message Status Types and Error Codes and further details in linked articles.
