10DLC Use Cases are categories of SMS messages defined by the US SMS carriers.
- Use Cases are defined by your sample messages - refer to the examples below to guide your selection of Use Case(s) for your 10DLC Campaign registration submission.
- Use cases are selected at the beginning of the 10DLC Campaign registration submission creation flow in Sakari's dashboard
Note:
Any and all use cases selected for registration must be explicitly stated to end-users when you request their consent to send messages (see also SMS Opt-in (Call to Action)).
Insufficiently supported, irrelevant or extraneous use-cases will cause your 10DLC Campaign registration submission to be rejected.
Standard Use Cases
Mixed
Any messaging campaign containing 2 to 5 standard use cases.
- By selecting more than one of the standard use cases below, you are creating a Mixed use case campaign.
- You must provide one sample message for each use case chosen for your submission
Marketing
Communications that include marketing or promotional content (e.g. sales notifications, discount offers, limited-time deals, new product launches, event promotions, recruitment opportunities, solicitation, etc).
Typically, but not exclusively, for prospective customers (promotional SMS to existing customers also fall under Marketing).
Typical sample messages for the Marketing use case:

Customer Care
Customer interactions, including customer support, account management updates, and assistance. Exclusively for existing customers. Cannot include promotional content, including appointment setting for prospective customers.
Typical sample messages for the Customer care use case:
- "Hi, this is REGISTERED BRAND/DBA. We weren't able to reach you regarding your recent support request. Please call back on this number and ask for John. Reply STOP to stop."
- "REGISTERED BRAND/DBA - We have updated our privacy policy. Find out more at [URL]. Reply STOP to unsubscribe."
- "REGISTERED BRAND/DBA - Your recent support request has been received. A representative will contact you shortly. Reply STOP to opt-out."
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Any one-time use passcode or authentication to verify accounts and ensure secure access.
Typical sample messages for the 2FA use case:
- This is REGISTERED BRAND/DBA. Your OTP for account verification is 123456. Reply STOP to stop.
- REGISTERED BRAND/DBA - Your OTP for resetting your password is 789012. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.
Account Notifications
Standard notifications for account holders, e.g. real-time updates about account status and related information. Does not cover promotional or support-related messaging to existing customers.
Typical sample messages for the Account Notifications use case:
- Hello, this is REGISTERED BRAND/DBA. Your account balance is now $1000. Reply STOP to stop
- REGISTERED BRAND/DBA - Your premium membership will expire in a week. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.
Delivery Notifications
Status of delivery of a physical product, a service involving delivery, or reminders related to delivery, including real-time updates on customer deliveries.
This includes notifications about order confirmation, shipping, delivery completion, or sending reminders for services that involve a delivery, such as furniture or maintenance.
Typical sample messages for the Delivery Notifications use case:
- This is REGISTERED BRAND/DBA. Your package with tracking number 123456 is out for delivery. Reply STOP to stop.
- REGISTERED BRAND/DBA - Your order has been delivered. Please confirm receipt. Reply STOP to opt-out.
Fraud Alert Messaging
Notifications about potentially fraudulent activity on a user's account.
Typical sample messages for the Fraud Alert Messaging use case:
- Alert from REGISTERED BRAND/DBA. Unusual activity detected on your account. Please contact us immediately at 123-123-1234. Reply STOP to opt-out
- REGISTERED BRAND/DBA - Your account has been temporarily locked due to suspicious activity. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.
Higher Education
Messaging to students from educational institutions (e.g. colleges, universities and school districts) including educational updates to students, enrollment reminders and confirmations, course schedules and exam notifications. Not suitable for messages promoting courses.

- This is REGISTERED BRAND/DBA. Your next semester enrollment starts from July 1st. Reply STOP to stop.
- REGISTERED BRAND/DBA - The final exam schedule has been released. Check it on our website. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.
Polling and Voting
The sending of surveys and polling/voting campaigns to gather valuable feedback and insights from customers (non-political arenas).
Typical sample message for the Polling & Voting use case:
- Hi from REGISTERED BRAND/DBA! We'd love your feedback. How would you rate your recent experience with us? Reply with a number from 1 to 5. Reply STOP to opt-out
Public Service Announcement
Informational messaging to raise an audience's awareness about important issues.
PSAs have no sale, no upsell, and no call-to-action involving a commercial offer.
The message does not advertise a product or service.
Can be an event reminder and logistics update for a person who has already registered.
It does not try to acquire new users or generate revenue directly.
Typical sample messages for the PSA use case:
- This is REGISTERED BRAND/DBA. Remember to conserve water during the summer months. Reply STOP to opt-out.
- REGISTERED BRAND/DBA - Join us in our campaign to clean up the local park. Details at [URL]. Reply STOP to opt-out.
Security Alert
Notify opted-in users of potential security issues related to their accounts or systems. Typically, notifications that the security of a system, either software or hardware, has been compromised and action is needed.
Typical sample messages for the Security Alert use case:
- Alert from REGISTERED BRAND/DBA. We've detected a potential security issue with your account. Please update your password. Reply STOP to stop.
- REGISTERED BRAND/DBA - A new login to your account was made from an unrecognized device. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.
Specialty use cases
Specialty use cases require additional approvals and/or steps and cannot be submitted via the Sakari dashboard. If your messaging use case falls into one of the below categories, contact the our support team
Charity: Communications from a registered charity aimed at providing help and raising money for those in need. 501c3 Tax-Exempt Organizations only.
Proxy: Peer-to-peer app-based group messaging with pooled/proxy numbers. Supports personalized services and non-exposure of personal numbers for the enterprise of A2P communications. When submitting, please describe your use case thoroughly to allow for the carriers to review as required. This use case typically utilizes number cycling from a number pool vs dedicated numbers for each agent (we recommend the Agents and Franchises use case for numbers dedicated to specific agents).
Sweepstakes: Gambling and sweepstakes messaging.
Emergency services: Public Safety notifications are designed to support public safety/health during natural disasters, armed conflicts, pandemics, and other national or regional emergencies.
Agents, franchises, local branches: Brands that have multiple agents, franchises, or offices in the same brand vertical, but require individual localized numbers per agent/location/office. Please provide use case details when submitting, and allow time for carrier approval.
Political messaging: Part of an organized effort to influence the decision-making of a specific group. All campaigns must be verified. If an organization is a 501 (c)(3), it should register under the charity class. If a 527 organization needs to register, it should register with Campaign Verify to receive a token that can then be input on the Brand page to register a political campaign.
Social engagement: Communication between public figures/influencers and their communities. Restricted and upon business case review. Strictly limited.
Related to
